OFFICE OF GOVERNOR BOB RILEY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEBRUARY 2, 2010
ADO Director Neal Wade Responds to Comment from Senator Barron
MONTGOMERY – Neal Wade, Director of the Alabama Development Office, today responded to a statement by Senator Lowell Barron that the fight over whether to enforce Alabama’s laws against illegal gambling will somehow hurt the state’s ability to attract new industry:
“I respectfully disagree with Senator Barron’s statement that this hurts our economic recruitment. Just in the last week, we’ve learned that three new projects are considering Alabama and we continue to have more projects looking at our state than we did last year. Companies base their decision on where to locate on a number of factors. One of them is the confidence they can have in whether laws are fairly enforced and whether leaders can be counted on to do what they say and to do what is right.”
