Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim James responds after a bill to spend $1-billion over ten years for highway and road construction did not make it up for a vote in the Alabama Senate.

Statement by Tim James concerning defeat of the Senate Democrats’ attempt to raid the Alabama Trust Fund:

“While I wholeheartedly support the intent of Democrats in the Alabama State Senate to fund additional highway and bridge projects, I am heartened that Senate Republicans stood firmly to protect the Alabama Trust Fund from further raids. We must protect this valuable asset and not let politicians dip into it. I have proposed an aggressive plan to build highways and bridges in Alabama, leveraging our state’s strong credit rating. We can fund these projects without robbing the state’s trust that provides the largest source of non-tax revenues for the Alabama General Fund. Now is the time for common sense in Alabama government, not business as usual.”
