Tim James, Republican candidate for Governor of Alabama, today outlined his six point plan for jobs and economic opportunity for the Tennessee Valley, citing the 2015 BRAC review as the region’s chief objective.

“Huntsville, we have a problem. His name is Barack Obama,” James said. “Obama has put NASA’s Constellation program on the federal chopping block. That means this region will lose 2,200 high-paying jobs. It’s a lesson we should all learn: we must band together in a statewide focus on the 2015 BRAC review. Thousands of federal and private sector jobs are at stake. My plan will maximize our potential to not only protect our military installations but add jobs.”

James added that if elected Governor of Alabama he would fight to eliminate bureaucratic red tape and expedite transportation, schools and other projects in the state capital budget pipeline. In addition, James’s jobs plan for the Tennessee Valley also includes:

-Expanding state workforce development programs in high schools and two-year colleges to include apprenticeships in local businesses.

-Extending economic development incentives to Alabama-based companies who want to expand and add jobs.

-Providing professional business consulting services to Alabama-based companies, especially those trying to survive in a tough economy.

-Helping businesses and research institutions such as Hudson Alpha Institute in protecting and marketing their intellectual properties.

-Establishing an Office of the Governor in Huntsville to serve the entire Tennessee Valley, in an effort to work closely with area citizens and leaders.
