MONTGOMERY – Earlier today, Dr. Robert J. Bentley participated in a press conference before hundreds of supporters and hosted by the Eagle Forum, Tea Party leaders, members of the Legislature, and political candidates. Dr. Robert J. Bentley stated “This outpouring of support is democracy at work. This is an issue addressing our rights under the U.S. Constitution. In the end, there is nothing more important to legislators than defending the constitutional rights of our constituents.”
“In short, this is one of the most important issues we will face in 2010. I am so concerned over this issue that in October, I pre-filed HB 42 to amend Alabama’s Constitution to prohibit mandatory participation by any individual, employer, or healthcare provider in any national health care system. I call upon my colleagues in the legislature to act on the constitutional amendment to prohibit mandatory participation in Obamacare. Enacting such an amendment will codify Alabama’s 10th Amendment rights regarding healthcare regulation and ensure Alabama has the strongest possible legal position to challenge the bill before the U.S. Supreme Court.”
He continued, “There are numerous solutions that can be implemented at the state level to improve the quality of healthcare, increase the number of doctors, and lower the cost for consumers. I have listed a number of steps my website, RobertBentley2010.com, that Alabama can take without federal involvement.”
