Madison County GOP says let the 5th District decide
Madison County Republicans have a message for State Party officials and the State Congressional delegation — stay out of 5th District Congressional politics until after the primary.
That message comes after the Madison County Republican Party’s Executive Committee voted on three resolutions Monday night dealing with Rep. Parker Griffith’s party switch.
The committee voted down a resolution to bar Griffith from the primary ballot in June but they passed two resolutions which seeks to limit outside influence in the race.
One resolution asks the Congressional delegation not to endorse any of the three GOP candidates until after the primary while the other asks the Republican party not to endorse Griffith before the primary.
“We just want to let the people of the 5th District decide this race,” said Jerry Gay, Director of Organizations for the Republican Party in Madison County.
Griffith downplayed the vote on the resolutions.
“I think there’s always an element of distrust but I think the vast majority of the 5th District knows I have been a very independent and conservative representative,” Griffith told WAFF 48 News.
Griffith left the Democratic party in December to join the Republican Party.
As a Republican, Griffith faces Mo Brooks and Les Phillips in the June primary.

The Republican Congressional Committee also decided to endorse ANYONE BUT GRIFFITH in the Republican Primary. I can’t think of a time when they’ve endorsed a candidate in the primary! They must really be upset by Griffith and I agree! Mo Brooks has my vote! Let’s kick Griffith outta there!
